The challenge of the Antwerp Zoo master plan was to retain the zoo's soul while modernizing its body. The Amaze Design team crafted a blueprint for change, calling for exhibit areas organized around ecosystems with expanded family-friendly interpretive programming; updated animal exhibits and holding; greater emphasis on conservation; stronger visitor circulation and wayfinding; and enhancement of the landmark gardens and buildings. Following completion of the master plan, the firm also provided exhibit designs services for the new Penguins and Otters Pavilion, as well as conversion of an existing livestock barn into the Discovery Center. Both projects set a new standard for interpretation and animal exhibition, heralding the zoo's entry into the 21st century.
